Question;
Does listening to George Formby whilst competing in races make Garstang
Running Club’s Pete Gelderd go faster? Answer: Not necessarily,
particularly if he stops to lean on lamp posts or decides to clean
windows!! Pete’s latest ruse to defy anno dominie meant
that he finished the Dave Clarke 5 miler at Lancaster in 54th place out
of 96 finishers – on all previous form, and there is a great deal
of it, he would have finished 40th , so is it “back to the
drawing board”?
Jane Holt continued the “are runners sane theme” when she
competed in the Staffordshire Moorlands multiterrain 8 miler on the
edge of the Peak District. Deciding to race in fancy dress she went as
“Road Runner” and beep beeped her way across the top of the
fells (I don’t have a clue what this means either) but still
managed to finish 181st out of 322 finishers.
The Lancashire Cross Country Championships at Witton Park, Blackburn
restored a little sanity – have you ever tried cross country,
some of them are lunatics – where Graham Tagg led home the
Garstang contingent in 61st place followed by Tony Pritchard
68th, Craig Menzies 85th and Geoff Lund 110th of the 119 finishers.
Less muddy than usual but still a bit of a slog (see the photo).
