Running Club members have been travelling the UK to take part in races
and no more so than Andy Holme who competed recently in Bath, the Lake
District and Skipton. Or was he just lost? There was a
field of over ten thousand for the Bath Half Marathon and Andy finished
4673rd in 1 hour 54 minutes – it would appear he forgot to pack
his finishing kick! The Lakeside 10k – but much longer than
the advertised distance saw Andy finish 35th of the 77 finishers in
59.50 minutes. Showing his versatility Andy then ventured to
Skipton for their Triathlon finishing an overall 294th out of 305 for
the swim, cycle, run event.
Alex Brown travelled from his home in Nottingham for the Blackpool Half
Marathon where he was “rewarded” with torrential rain for
the whole of the event. Persistency paid off however and he was
rewarded with a better than expected time of 1 hour 40 minutes and
183rd place. Less than two minutes ahead was Richard Jones who
finished 146th in 1 hour 38 and just behind was Gary Heyworth who
finished 210th in 1 hour 42 and just a little further behind was Debut
Spencer who finished 694th in 2 hours 8 minutes a massive 1 hour 31
minutes in front of the last finisher.
Jane Holt stayed close to home in Staffordshire, firstly for the Mow
Cop Killer Mile – a brief but brutal non stop climb peaking close
to the end at 1 in 3. Finishing 21st out of 70 runners her time
of 10 minutes 15 seconds meant that she “walked away” with
the 1st Lady Vet prize. Secondly came the Uttoxeter Half Marathon where
Jane set a PB of 1.46.21 finishing 194th of the 383 runners.
Richard Jones was on his bike again for the Dalton in Cumbria 10k where
he finished 37th of 108 finishers in 42.24. Staying in Cumbria
for the Dallam Dash 10k Phil Dixon finished 77th of 103 finishers in
50.32 with Pete Gelderd, yet again “failing to trouble the
judge” 92nd in 55.32.
Keswick was the location for the next Half Marathon where Malcolm
Vinnicombe finished 201st of 507 finishers in 1 hour 46 and Julie
Graham 320th in 1 hour 58.
Last but not least the Rosemere Ladies 5K at Preston saw Heather
Cronshaw finish an excellent 26th in 27.05 and Tracey Winter 35 out of
73 finishers in 28.58 minutes
