Dave Neilands reports . . . .

Some Garstang Running Club members  decided it was “turn out twice” week end in that they ran the Mid Lancs cross country fixture on the Saturday and had another go on Sunday at either the St Annes 10 miler or the Haweswater Half Marathon. Richard Jones turned out twice as part of his London Marathon training whilst Dave Barraclough did the same, just because he could.  Persistent runner Richard Roberts turned out only once, shock horror because of an injury to his head – otherwise known as a hangover!

At the Mid Lancs cross country at a relatively dry Witton Park in Blackburn Mike Whyatt led home the small club contingent in overall 7th place, followed by Tony Pritchard 92nd, Phil Cornall  104th, Richard Jones 117th and Dave Barraclough  121st of the 152 finishers.  At the end of the six race series Mike Whyatt was crowned MV40 champion after a number of consistent performances.  The following day Dave Barraclough went to wet and windy St Annes for the ten miles of boredom up and down the promenade.  Finishing 124th in a field of 341 he was blown home in 1 hour 14.52 minutes, followed by Andy Holme, he must have found his racing shoes at long last, in 170th place in 1.20.21.  For Frank Miller however the windy conditions meant a personal worst, hopefully not the first of many, finishing 187th in 1.22.06.

The Haweswater Half Marathon, as you might expect had the occasional hill to get in the way of the runners, not to mention the wind and rain however the now recovered Richard Roberts finished 40th in 1.26.38, Tim Warner 103rd in 1.34.41, Al Hartley 105th in 1.34.51, twice weekly Jones 136th in 1.37.52 and Julie Graham 364th in 2.00.46, with the 431st and final runner finishing in 2.43.13.
