Dave Neilands reports . . . .

Garstang Running Club recently held its final social head-torch run for the winter season.  The runners set off from The Calderbank at Oakenclough and headed up towards the wireless masts.  It was a beautiful moon-lit evening and the view across to the coast was worth all the effort of coping with the muddy track!  Some would be concerned about the effect on the night sky of light pollution but it did look rather spectacular.

Leaving the masts the group went through lots more mud down to Burn’s Farm and into Grizedale Valley. From there it was inevitably uphill to the next stop on top of Nicky Nook where once again it was clear why such a run was so much better than plodding up and down the A6 on dark winter evenings!

The route back down to the valley path was mainly open fields and some members ran without the use of their head torches because it was so clear. The path through the woods to Harris End gave the opportunity to rinse off muddy shoes and the group made its way back to The Calderbank for a well earned, and tasty, supper.  With the change of clocks the next social run will be in the light on April 12th at Tarnbrook.  There is a different run on the second Thursday of each month, usually followed by supper at a suitable pub close to the route.  If anyone would like to join in the fun there are regular club runs each Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm from The Sports and Social Club.  Non-members are always welcome – you do not have to join until you decide you like the experience!  Being able to run 4 or 5 miles is useful but don’t let that put you off!   Just turn up and introduce yourself to someone who looks like they are prepared for a run.   The summer evening runs are generally off-road so suitable footwear is advised.  For further information visit the club’s website on www.garstangrc.co.uk
