There may have only been 66 competitors at the Simonstone 10K road race near Burnley but it did not matter a jot to Mike Whyatt
of Garstang Running Club as he won the race by ten seconds in a time of
34.48 minutes. Giving support, albeit from a distance, was Pete Gelderd who finished 53rd in 51.52 minutes.
The reintroduced Windermere Marathon gave Richard Jones, Malcolm Vinnicombe, Tim Warner and Philippa Olive
the opportunity (?) to run their second marathon in four weeks.
As Phillippa was the only one to improve her London Marathon time, and
by over 10 minutes, it might be suggested that the second marathon came
too soon. Richard finished 261st in 3 hours 48 minutes just
managing to keep in front of “flying” Frank Miller
who was 358th in 3 hours 52, with Malcom 358th and 3rd MV60 in 3 hours
57, Tim 409th in 4 hours 01 and Philippa 523rd in 4 hours 17 minutes.
The last of the 912 competitors completed the scenic course in 6
hours 28 minutes
