Neilands reports .
. . .
True to his word Richard
Roberts of Garstang Running Club has been out on the fells with a
vengeance, starting with Hellvellyn (might have been a hill or two
there) he performed moderately finishing only 63 out of 92 competitors
but perked up at Penyghent where he finished 28th out of 155. At
Knowl Hill, where a ladder would have come in handy he finished 13th
out of 122 and at the Great Hill race near Chorley he finished 11th out
of 75. Lots of hills, lots of effort, did he notice the views?
Distant member Jane Holt was also out on the hills for her first fell
race at the Wincle Trout Run (guess what all finishers received instead
of a medal?) in the Derbyshire Peak District finishing 163rd out of
300. Other distant members settled for less hilly races with Alex
Brown finishing 141st out of 276 in 1 hour 17.48 minutes at the
Nottingham 10 mile road race, whilst Fiona Brown opted for the shorter
Principia 10k, also at Nottingham where she finished 163rd out of 289
in 55.19 minutes.
Closer to home and on a baking hot day Mike Whyatt finished 3rd at the
Morecambe 10k in 34.35 minutes with Pete Gelderd finishing 131st in
52.59. For once it was not baking hot at the Freckleton Half
Marathon where Tony Pritchard finished an excellent 43rd in 1 hour
27.53 with Al Hartley 196th in 1.45.58 with the 497th and last
competitor completing the course in 2 hours 50 minutes
