Strange
things can happen to runners during a race but a sex change is not a
normal event. Starting the race as Alan Hartley the organizers of
the Cuerden Trail Race had Al down in the results as Alison Hartley!
Richard Roberts said that Al was looking good at the finish, but
not that good!
For the record Richard finished the race in 15th place and Al 34th of
the 149 finishers. Richard was out again for the third of the
summers four Harrock Hill races where in a field of 129 he finished
22nd in 37.40 minutes. Geoff Lyons, like Richard Roberts is also
a regular competitor – once a year. This year chose the
Kentmere Horseshoe to dust off his fell running shoes to show there was
some life in the old dog as he finished 82nd of the 245 competitors
finishing the 12 mile event, with 3300 feet of climbing in 30 seconds
over two hours.
