Dave Neilands reports . . . .

The Great North Run attracts some Garstang Running Club members every year – Chris Doggett and John Gott have collectively completed the race over 40 times. For Richard Jones it was more a case of the £38 entry fee gets you the opportunity to dodge round runners for the whole of the 13.1 mile route. Despite circumnavigating half the 50000 field Richard finished in 1 hour 35 minutes, John in 2.39 and Chris in 2.50. It makes one wonder how much more Richard would have moaned had actually paid for his own entry!
It is fairly certain that Richard paid for his own entry at the Coniston 15K Trail Race in the Lake District. This was the scenic race at which Richard Roberts bid a fond farewell to the club before he and his wife Sue decamp for Northern Scotland where apparently they will both be terrorising the natives by driving buses around the back lanes of Inverness. McRoberts led the club home in 25th place in 1 hour 06.38, with the other Richard 140th in 1.22.02, Philippa Olive 275th in 1.35.39 and Julie Graham 284th out of 353 finishers in 1.36.21.
The ladies section were out in force at Pier to Pier 15K race from Blackpool to Fleetwood with Philippa Olive finishing 189th in 1 hour 24.03, Denise Hughes 195th in 1.25.13 and Debbie Spencer 214th out of 246 finishers in 1.30.13.
