Dave Neilands reports . . . .

Tim Warner was Garstang Running Club’s only representative at the Northern Vets 10 mile championship at St Anne’s – and it is not because the club do not have anyone else old enough!  Tim finished the flat course in 61st place out of 158 competitors in 1 hour 12.29 minutes.  Phillipa Olive and Denise Hughes were determined to improve on their recent half marathon times at the Lancaster Half Marathon but were not best pleased to be told that their original finishing times were incorrect by about one and a half minutes – you can work out for yourselves which way.  Nonetheless, even with the adjustments Phillipa beat her target time of 1 hour 50 minutes by finishing 152nd in 1 hour 49.55 and Denise beat her two hour target finishing 179th in 1 hour 55.11.  Also in the 217 runner field was new member Craig Menzies who finished 64th in 1 hour 31.31.

Richard Jones and Al Hartley opted for the shorter and flatter Southport 10k where in a field of 438 Richard finished 72nd in 41.17 – cycling the coast to coast the previous weekend must have been excellent training – and Al 87th in 41.57 minutes.  Billy no mates Pete Gelderd was the clubs only representative at Clitheroe for the Waddington 10k finishing 90th out of 121 finishers in 51.49 minutes – an improved performance as he actually beat some septagenarians who have been beating him in previous weeks!!
