Dave Neilands reports . . . .

An ability to run on water was a decided advantage for the 279 competitors who completed Garstang Running Club’s own 10 mile road race – the Guy’s 10. The flooded roads did not appear to handicap the race winner Peter Medupe of Preston Harriers who sailed home in 52.43 minutes nor the first lady Gemma Unsworth of Blackpool & Fylde who completed the course in 1 hour 05.28 minutes.  First back of the 10 runners from the club was Graham Tagg who finished 23rd and second MV40 in 1.01.49, followed by Greg Hunter 82nd in 1.11.28, Richard Jones 84th in 1.11.42, Craig Menzies 89th in 1.12.08, Graham Hobson 111th in 1.13.43, Malcolm Vinnicombe 114th and second MV60 in 1.14.11, Julie Graham 208th in 1.26.55, Denise Hughes 221st in 1.29.04, Marc Saysell 255th in 1.34.31 and Debi Spencer 256th in 1.34.32.  Yet again the club greatly appreciated the support and sponsorship it received from Guy’s Thatched Hamlet.

Six club members ventured to Liverpool’s Sefton Park for the Mid Lancs Cross Country fixture – every year Liverpool gets moved into the middle of Lancashire – with Geoff Lyons finishing 95th, Tony Pritchard 106th, Craig Menzies 107th, Phil Cornall 118th, Richard Jones 122nd and Geoff Lund 153rd of the 170 competitors.

Even further a field Richard McRoberts  had his first attempt at a Scottish fell race finishing 56th at the Meall A’ Bhuchaille race in the area of Loch Morlich and the Spey Valley which no doubt all readers know intimately!
