Richard Jones and Craig Menzies of Garstang Running Club ventured to Cheshire for the Through the Villages Half Marathon at Helsby. Richard was plodding along towards the finish, as he does – thinking of London Marathon times he will never achieve, when he was passed by Craig at “full throttle” - so fast in fact that the time keepers failed to spot him! His probable time was 1 hour 35 minutes but we cannot be certain. What was certain was that Richard finished in 524th place with several hundred runners behind him in 1 hour 41.31 minutes.

Closer to home the Chernobyl 10K at Walton le Dale, not Russia, saw six members taking part. Mike Whyatt finished an excellent 4th and 1st Vet 40 in 34.15 minutes with Greg Hunter 91st in 42.55, Gary Heyworth 114th in 44.17, Phillipa Olive 277th in 51.53, Denise Hughes 301st in 53.00 and Claire Gillham making a rare competitive appearance in 56.29 with the 490th and final competitor completing the course in 1 hour 31.02 minutes.
