Dave Neilands reports . . . .
Gale force winds allied to the undulating nature of the roads around Barnacre meant that Garstang Running Club’s own Gallop 10K was even more of a challenge for most of the 185 finishers. For race winner Stuart Robinson of Blackpool Wyre & Fylde AC it was something of a breeze finishing the race 15 seconds ahead of Rick Hayman of Horwich and 26 seconds ahead of Kieren Rowlands of Lancaster & Morecambe. First lady was Anna Pichrtova of X-Air Ostrava, finishing 9th overall in 36.16 minutes finishing an enormous 5 minutes ahead of the second lady Bev Wright of Blackpool Wyre & Fylde and 7 minutes ahead of Caroline Scholes of Horwich. The running club had eleven members participating with Tony Pritchard first home in 30th place in 41.14 minutes followed by Greg Hunter 49th in 44.26, Malcolm Vinnicombe 82nd and 2nd MV60 in 48.05; Sue Richmond 113th in 52.08 , Pete Gelderd 116th in 52.31, Pam Murphy 119th in 52.55, Mike Hall 142nd in 56.46, Heather Cronshaw 149th in 59.46, Omar Aboo 153rd in 60.52, Debit Spencer, never mentioning her heavy cold once, 160th in 62.16 and Paul Cronshaw 176th in 72.51 with the last of the finishers just managing to beat the two hour mark in 1 hour 58 minutes.
After the Streets of London (Marathon) the Hawkshead 15K trail race was just a stroll in the Lake District for Julie Graham who finished the scenic course in 1 hour 47 minutes. Another “Londoner” Richard Jones used the hilly Wray 10k (between Lancaster and Kirkby Lonsdale) as preparation for the following days Blackpool Half Marathon finishing another scenic course in 38th place in 44.43 minutes. Pete Gelderd had no such excuse (or for walking up the hills) finishing 78th in 54.33 but he did have a further 32 runners toiling in his wake with the last competitor finishing in 1 hour 23.41 minutes
