It was probably a little too warm (how many times has that been said this summer) for the 191 runners at Garstang Running Clubs own Half Marathon; however for a change conditions were ideal for marshals. After building up a substantial lead the winner Gethin Butler of Preston Harriers was being steadily pegged back by male vet 50+ Paul Muller who got within 45 seconds of Gethin’s time of 1 hour 15.39 minutes. The third finisher Ryan Barker of Halifax Harriers was nearly eight minutes back in 1.23.14. First lady to finish was Bev Wright of Blackpool Wyre and Fylde who finished 24th overall in 1.28.58. Ex Garstang member and now Settle resident was Jill Robinson second lady to finish in 1.32.38 with Carmel Sullivan of Wesham Road Runners the third lady to finish in 1.34.26.

Craig Menzies was the first Garstang member to finish in 52nd place in 1.35.47, followed by “Dodgy back” Geoff Lund 128th in 1.53.59, Pam Murphy 136th in 1.55.06, Julie Graham 138th in 1.55.25, Sue Richmond 152nd in 2.01.22, Mike Hall (never ever grumbling) 159th in 2.04.47 and finally Debi Spencer (does having a pedicure instead of going training make you go faster – general consensus is she would have been better of going and getting her nails cut) 185th in 2.19.08 minutes.
