Chris
Doggett was Garstang Running Club’s only representative at the
Great North Run. Completing the race for the twentieth time and
after taking half an hour to pass through the start line Chris finished
the 13.1 mile course in 34,475th place in 2 hours 56 seconds.
The Paras Multi Terrain 10 miler was a quite different challenge at the
army’s Catterick Camp in North Yorkshire . Completing the off
road course in under one hour and fifty minutes, which incidentally is
the cut off time for selection for the parachute regiment, seems
manageable in trainers but competitors were compelled to wear army
boots and carry a 35lb pack. Finishing 31st Colin Jennings
covered the course in 1 hour 37 minutes and Graham Tagg 74th in 1 hour
42 minutes. Graham is now hoping that all the skin he rubbed off
his heels during the challenge will eventually grow back!
By comparison the Coniston 15k Trail race in the Lake District does not
sound quite so daunting. Offering its usual mix of scenery and
undulations Martyn Knowles finished 69th in 52.47 minutes and Julie
Graham 247th in 1.05.05.
For mere road races the Burnley 7 offered its usual hilly terrain with
Denise Hughes finishing 127th of the 166 finishers in 1.00.49 with Pete
Sinartra Gelderd finishing 137th in 1.02.24 and Debi Spencer 148th in
1.05.20.
Debi was out again at the altogether flatter Pier to No Pier 15k (from
Blackpool to Fleetwood) where she finished 126th of the 190 finishers
in 1.22.59.
It was also flat terrain for the Veterans 10 miler at St Annes where
Gary Heyworth finished 53rd of the 139 finishers in 1.12.13 and Sue
Richmond 110th in 1.30.03.
The Waddington 10k near Clitheroe offered a few more undulations which
appeared to be to the liking of Tony Pritchard who finished 21st in
40.02 with Al (no kit) Hartley 57th in 44.40 closely followed by Tim
Warner 59th in 44.44 minutes.
